Open-source hardware project hosting is my passion. I spend most of my free time building neat gadgets or planning what I'll build next. I love building things, and I want to make Open Hardware Hub a place that inspires others to build, ...

Hi all,

I want to share with you a few exciting projects you might want to participate in.

xyz piezo micromanipulator
Applications: pick-and-place in biology, medical research, micro-robotics...
Project page: http://www.sensorica.co/home/projects/touch-sensitive-robots-for-micro-manipulation/xyz-piezo-micromanipulator
Problems to solve: The circuit we have (based on a DC/DC converter) draws too much current, there is a high frequency signal, some parts are cooking...

Tape displacement sensor
Applications: this is a bundle of optical fibers on a tape that can be applied on different objects to measure small deformations; very low cost device.
Project page: http://www.sensorica.co/home/projects/tape-sensor
Problems to solve: the tape sensor contains 3 to 5 optical fibers, one of them beings light to the sensitive area, the others are collectors, we need to map light intensity variation through the collecting fibers into 2D bending of the bundle.
NOTE: the Canadian Space Agency is looking for a low-cost optical fiber-based solution for measuring small bending of metal beams. This is a proof-of-concept shot, potentially leading to a more formal collaboration with the agency, and an R&D grant.

You might also take a look at our Mosquito displacement/force sensor being tested at the Montreal Heart Institute.
