Knight Rider Lights

The red flashing lights on the front of the car KITT in the popular Knight Rider series are an iconic visual effect. You can easily recreate this effect with this open source hardware project. Using a couple simple components, we'll light up a series of LEDs in order giving the illusion that the light is bouncing back and forth from side to side.

. Insert wires

Insert another orange wire as shown.

Insert the yellow wire as shown.

. Insert LEDs

Insert the LEDs as shown. The short legs of the LEDs plug in to the ground rail on the left side of the bread board.

. Insert diodes

Insert a pair of 1N4001 diodes as shown. These diodes connect to the second LED from the top. Take note of the orientation of the white stripe on the body of the diodes. The polarity (which way the diode is plugged in) does matter.
